No
sooner do I mention humanist funerals than someone in a BBC podcast
tells of a wife who compiled and showed a film of the happiest
moments of her husband's life. In the unlikely event any of my
friends are reading this, please ensure my daughters know this is
exactly the sort of thing I was talking about yesterday. I want to go
out on a bed of laughter, not flames. Well, laughter first, flames
second.
The
Spanish fresco fiasco is still fresh in our memories and here's
something to keep it there – a suggestion that both the original
and the 'restored' Ecce Homos are preserved and displayed side
by side. Which surely has to be right.
Well,
today was our last fiesta of the year – the Feira Franca, or
Medieval Fair. Blessed with excellent weather – sun and 28 degrees
– this was a huge success. Frankly, I was astonished by how much
effort had been put into it throughout the old quarter and way, way
beyond. And by how many people entered into the spirit of it, usually
in costume.
They
don't do justice to it but here are a few fotos of the event:-
Virtually the first costume I came upon - a medieval Arab.
Nice to see the local Somali community involved.
Seriously knightly . . .
Just one of hundreds of tables . . .
Kids' games in Plaza de España.
Not quite sure what . . .
Musicians in cages . . .
One of the few bits of green not covered with tents and tables.
Three be-leathered ladies strutting their stuff for the TV camera . . .
Metal escort for the cask of wine . . .
Kids in cages . . .
Yet another table . . .
Finally . . . A truly delightful trio, next to a very proud father.
Finally
. . . A salutary tale for those who like a bit of karaoke.
