Indonesian blushes; Bull goading; Brexit; PM indignity; Cathedrals beach; Daft quotes; & Dancing in the rain.

It's happened before and the latest example is the Indonesian host playing the fascist anthem instead of the real national 'himno' when a Spanish lady took gold in the world badminton championships. Poor girl. She looked bemused, as well she might. In this rendition of the anthem, the part of the clown in various comic outfits is played by Francisco Franco. And the part of the supportive religious nuts is played by the Catholic church.

Talking of madness . . . It's not 7 men who've been killed this summer in bullrunning/baiting: It's now 10.

Those UK citizens worried about the implications of a Brexit from the EU and looking at Spanish citizenship, should know they'd have to renounce their British citizenship. But this isn't allowed by the UK, meaning they'd then have 2 nationalities. Though not dual nationality, as Spain won't recognise their UK nationality. Got it? If not, don't worry; a Brexit is very unlikely.

Talking of the UK . . . Why does the British Prime Minister have to twit he's delighted Lord Coe has become President of the International Athletics Association? Does he really have to get down with the lads? Is there nothing that's now below the dignity of this office holder? Obviously not.

Talking of Galician beaches . . . Reader Sierra has sent this video of Lugo province's Cathedrals beach. When I was last there, a Swedish couple asked me to take their foto, standing right on the edge of cliff. As you do, I suggested they move back a metre. And was horrified when they started to do so. Maybe they were just joshing me, but it didn't look like it.

Taking of the afterlife . . . Do you regard all these quotes as arrant nonsense? Or just 3 of them? From a panel discussion on sunday's BBC TV:-
  • Christian: The balance of probability is that there's an afterlife.
  • Hindu: Quantum physics has proved there's an afterlife.
  • Atheist 1: I don't judge people's beliefs. [Including those of ISIS, one assumes]
  • Atheist 2: Why do people think they need an excuse to be good?

Finally . . . Just heard this quote, attributed to a lady called Vivian Greene: Life's not about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning to dance in the rain. Amen to that. Here's her web page, which may or may not appeal to all. Like me, she sees herself as "a visionary, artist, author and entrepreneur". But she's making a lot more money than me. Which wouldn't be hard.

Also heard on Sky: Drinking just one glass of wine a day can shorten your life. And that being born invariably results in death.
