ISIS; Columbus; Those ads again; & A dirty picture

ISIS: The British historian, Niall Ferguson, has stuck his neck out with this terse comment:- "Today Islamic extremism is playing the same role as Bolshevism in the 20th century: it is an ideological epidemic, crossing borders, radicalising young people, infiltrating our own societies and wreaking havoc wherever it gains power. The most virulent strain of the epidemic is Isis. Ten years from now, I fear, we shall look back and wish we had done more to snuff it out before its imagined caliphate became a reality." Hard to disagree with a word of that.

COLUMBUS: Well, I'm delighted that the question has finally been cleared up for good. At an international conference on the issue, it was concluded the evidence is incontrovertible that Christoper Columbus - Cristóbal Colón in the Hispanic world - was born here in Galicia. In fact only a few hundred metres from where I'm writing this, in Poio. Where we have a museum on the site of his birth. Perhaps I should point out, though, that the conference was held in the university of Santiago, here in Galicia. Nonetheless, up yours Genoa. BTW . . . Did you know that Colin is a derivative of Colón?

THOSE BACK OF THE PAPER ADS: You might have thought the examples I quoted were pretty explicit but reader Sierra has kindly provided this ad, raising questions about where exactly the line is drawn: "Sex, 69, Golden shower, Soft bondage, couples, threesomes, [censored]".

Which reminds me . . .

FINALLY . . . 1913 PORN: I thought you'd like to know this painting was considered the filthiest of the last year of the Edwardian era. "Nude descending a staircase" - by some warped Frog called Marcel Duchamp.http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathonkeats/2013/11/05/the-naughtiest-picture-of-1913-nude-descending-a-staircase-returns-to-new-york-city

Talking of painters . . . Did you know Van Gogh spent 4 pretty miserable years in the UK - in London, Ramsgate and Isleworth.
