Thoughts from Galicia: 4.6.17

Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable.
- Christopher Howse: A Pilgrim in Spain.

I'm tied up today so I have prepared this - largely visual -  treat for you . . .

This was some sort of exhibition in our main square on Friday. Inspection revealed a number of tables, each representing one of Galicia's cities and boasting their tourist credentials:-

Or in this case, both Santiago de Compostela and Padrón, where funds must have been limited.

But I'm not sure why a group of military bagpipe players was essential to the proceedings . . .

Spanish individualismo . . . . Here's how you park when you don't give a toss about your neighbours in a city where on-street parking is at a premium. Seven places, six cars:-

And here's how it should be done . . .

And here's the classic example of self-centredness, clocked as I was leaving my house yesterday morning.

Although you can't see this, the driver couldn't be bothered to place her car near to either the one in front of the one or the one behind hers. And so deprived someone else of a space. But, on the other hand, my immediate neighbours seem to have stopped doing this after I remonstrated with them about it

One assumes this chap is a Trump supporter:-

It must be great to have a hot line to your god. I'd have a few good questions, if I did.

Which reminds me . . . You might like to have a look at this video about the father of the head Scientology lunatic. Most - all? - of you should be highly amused by the beliefs of this utterly phony 'Church'. Which has charitable status, of course. And makes a shitload of money, as they say.

Finally . . . Lenox Napier of Business Over Tapas is a Brit who's been here longer than I have, speaks better Spanish than me, and understands Spain a lot more than I do. So, I was very amused to read this account of his experience with Telefónica this week.
