Thoughts from Heald Green, England: 18.12.18

Spanish life is not always likeable but it is compellingly loveable.

England
  • I've moved from dry but cold Leeds back to wet but less-cold south Manchester. At a café in Headingley yesterday morning, I found myself sitting next to a table of 6 young Spaniards, 4 female and 2 male. I assumed they were all students at one or other of Leeds' universities. But, no. They said they were in the UK to work. Which was a tad depressing.
Spain
The UK and Brexit
  • We didn't have to do Brexit in this damn silly way, says this observer. But, even now – he says - it's not too late to stop being silly. Or rather, 'he said', as this was written a decade ago, back in early November.
  • A nice, more-recent comment: Theresa May was unequivocal. She would not, repeat not, permit a second referendum. No way. No chance. Forget it. Not happening. Not a prayer. Not on her watch. Which I suppose leaves only one question. What date will the second referendum be held?
